Solution

We started by instrumenting the funnel, then interviewed recent sign-ups who abandoned halfway. The data pointed to three points of friction: document upload, bank linking and an unclear first goal.

Outcome

In the first quarter after launch, new-account activation rose 38% and the number of steps to a first transfer fell from twelve to four.

01 — Challenge

The challenge

Ledgerline's onboarding asked new customers for twelve separate steps before they could make a first transfer, and most dropped out along the way. Identity checks, linking a bank account and setting preferences all lived on different screens.

The account dashboard had grown the same way, one widget at a time. New customers landed on a wall of charts and could not find the one action they came to take.

Engineering was also slowed down by a legacy front-end that made every change risky, so the team had stopped experimenting with the funnel altogether.

02 — Solution

Our approach The solution

We started by instrumenting the funnel, then interviewed recent sign-ups who abandoned halfway. The data pointed to three points of friction: document upload, bank linking and an unclear first goal.

We rebuilt onboarding as a four-step guided flow with progress saving, inline validation and clear explanations for every request. The dashboard was reorganised around the first-week actions that matter most.

  • Four-step onboarding with resumable progress
  • Bank linking moved earlier, with clear fallbacks
  • A new-customer dashboard focused on three actions
  • Feature flags and funnel analytics for ongoing tests

The new front-end shipped on Next.js behind feature flags, so we could roll out to a small share of traffic first and compare results.

Results

  • Activation lift

New-account activation in the quarter after launch

  • Onboarding steps

Steps from sign-up to first transfer

03 — Outcome

The outcome

In the first quarter after launch, new-account activation rose 38% and the number of steps to a first transfer fell from twelve to four.

Support tickets about onboarding fell by half, freeing the support team to focus on harder customer questions.

The team now runs funnel experiments every sprint, using the flag and analytics setup we left in place.

Raymanthis cut our onboarding from twelve steps to four and activation jumped within weeks. They treated our funnel like their own product.
